The Playwriting Workshop with Trey Nichols: A Playwriting Workshop (with Trey Nichols)
Playwriting is a lonely business. Every artist needs community--along with a
fun and safe place to play. Trey Nichols has been providing such a place for
playwrights since 2001. His playwriting workshop is geared for intermediate
to advanced playwrights, though new writers are welcome. In a fun, supportive,
and rigorous atmosphere, each playwright brings up to eight pages of new work
to be read aloud and discussed in depth each week. The aim of the workshop is
to further the development of each playwright's unique voice and vision, with
the goal of completing a one-act play or the first act of a full-length play
by the end of the 8-week course. A number of the plays developed in the workshop
have gone on to receive readings, workshops, and productions at theatres all
around the country.
Who Is This Trey Guy?
Glad you asked. Trey Nichols is a playwright, actor and solo performer, and
has written more than a dozen full-length and one-act plays, including THE MEADOWS,
FATHERS AT A GAME, ONE SLIT HEAD, and BODY FOUND. All have received productions
(except BODY FOUND, which received a workshop production in the 2000 Edge of
the World Theater Festival's LA History Project). His most recent play, PINA
COLADAS, was presented as part of The Car Plays, produced by Moving Arts in
2006. His solo show, A LESSON IN PROPER BOW-FLUFFING TECHNIQUE (Storey Productions/Moving
Arts), was nominated for a 2005 Ovation Award for Solo Performance. Trey is
the Literary Director of Moving Arts, where he oversees the play selection,
evaluation, and development process, and produces the theatre's Playreading
Series. Mr. Nichols received a B.S. in Theatre from Northwestern University.
The workshop is limited to eight playwrights. The venue is on the westside and
top secret.
Fee is $250. For info about the next session, call (310) 398-3125 or e-mail treynichols@movingarts.org.
